The Technology for Lat Machines
- Our physical technology consists of 5 main components, the slow shaft, planetary gearbox, fast shaft, break and generator.
- On the far right of the image we have the slow shaft which connects directly to the lat weight machine and its spinning wheel on top
- Directly connected to the slow shaft is the planetary gearbox which uses gear ratios to boost the speed of the shafts
- That increased gearspeed leads to the fast shaft which runs through the break and into the generator
- The generator uses the rotational energy and transforms it into eletrical energy which can be stored or wired to various locations
Places of Progression
- We are currently still researching how much energy we can produce through this rotational based energy system
- The planetary gearbox can be continuously improved especially the gear ratios to increase the rotational speed and thus energy produced
- Due to various brands of lat machines having different configurations, we are trying to figure out how to design a device to fit a majority of them
Lat Machine
- Our device would connect to the top of the lat machine where the wheels appear unexposed
- The slow shaft would rub on the wheel spinning it with high velocity
- We hope to have the majority of our device will take up space in the gym not occupied or needed
- The remaining parts of the device would hang over the side of the machine and have support beams included
- To ensure the device is properly supported attachments to nearby walls may be necessary
- Currently the total weight of the device is still under design but it should be easily supported by the durable frame of a lat machine
